Italeri 6194 1/72 Model Kit WWII Pegasus Bridge Operation Deadstick Battle Set
On the night between 5 and 6 June 1944, during the early stages of the Overlord operation, the 6th British Airborne Division received the objective of capturing the mobile bridge over the Orne River, near the city of Ouistreham in Normandy. The control of the bridge, called “Pegasus” in code, was in fact a fundamental element to secure the eastern flank of the operational scenario and prevent a possible counterattack by the German armored troops that could reach the landing point at Sword Beach. The British paratroopers, on board the Horsa gliders, landed near the bridge and had the upper hand, thanks to a rapid and effective action, of the German troops defending the bridge. Even today, the Pegasus Bridge is a point of reference for all those who visit the most significant places of Overlord.
