F-105D Thunderchief "Cherry Girl"
61-0069, Vietnam War, 1967

Responsible for the lion's share of strike-bombing missions during the early years of the Vietnam War, the Republic F-105 Thunderchief was officially introduced in May of 1958. More than 20,000 sorties were flown using the rugged aircraft — which was capable of transporting a greater bombload than the B-17 Flying Fortress and B-24 Liberator of World War II — and was nicknamed "Thud" by its pilots. The "D" was the definitive production model, representing 610 of the 833 Thunderchiefs built. It was not retired until the mid-1980s.

Made by Hobby Master, this 1/72 scale, die cast model replicates an F-105D stationed at Takhli Air Base with the 357th Tactical Fighter Squadron during the Vietnam War. It features that aircraft's signature camouflage paint scheme, engraved panel lines, an opening canopy, a removable pilot figure, a well-equipped cockpit including instrument panel, a detailed afterburning turbojet, full weapons complement, optional-position landing gear, authentic markings, and a display stand. Measures approximately 10¾" long with a 5¾" wingspan.
